Set in the sunny seaside hilltop in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferret is Villa Rothschild, a rose coloured villa created by Béatrice de Rothschild, for whom the beautiful buildings of Venice were  the inspiration for the architecture of the house. The villa is filled with paintings, sculptures and antique furniture, all collected by her.

When you walk inside the villa, you are greeted by the interior courtyard ‘The Patio’, which was inspired by a Venetian Palazzo. The rooms on the first floor have some of the best views inside the villa, while on the south facing terrace you have amazing views of the gardens and the sea.The Grand Salon in particular has a truly spectacular view, with floor to ceiling windows looking out over  the Baie des Fourmis at Beaulieu-sur-Mer. This was one of my favourite rooms in the entire villa.

The gardens were designed in the shape of a deck on a ship, where Béatrice de Rothschild would stand on the terrace and imagine being at sea. There are nine  gardens to explore, each with a different theme – French, Spanish , Florentine, Japanese, Provençal and Sevres, as well as the exotic, stone and rose gardens. In the French gardens there is a fountain show playing throughout the day, with classical music as a background.

The Tea Room that stands next to the villa is surrounded by pink flowers and is a lovely spot to take a break from the heat of the summer months whilst still enjoying the beautiful scenery.

You could spend all day at Villa Rothschild, wandering through the gardens or admiring the architecture of the villa itself. It was one of my favourite places I visited during the summer.
